My OneFit Week – Sunday, Yoga Nidra at Flink In

Well it’s been a busy OneFit week for me. And now we reach Sunday so my last day of posting. I already did some other non- OneFit sport earlier in the day. So my choice for the final log day was the most relaxing practice possible, Yoga Nidra.

Saturday 8.30pm – Yoga Nidra at Flink In

Yoga Nidra, also known as yogic sleep, is not one of my usual classes. A big reason for this is that I am very wary of falling asleep and snoring loudly during the session. In all the Nidra classes I attended the teacher tells us it is fine to fall asleep. But I really don’t want to wake myself by snoring and therefore usually skip over this type of yogic practice.

During a yogic sleep class you lie still whilst the teacher talks you through relaxation and meditation. In some cases you switch position after every 15 minutes but at Flink In the entire session is in shavasana with blankets and props to ensure warmth and comfort. The teacher concentrates first on breathing, then talks you through bringing your awareness and relaxation to every part of your body followed by visualisation and talking you through self- healing. The theory behind the practice is that 45 minutes of Yoga Nidra is as restorative as 3 hours of sleep. Benefits include improved immune and metabolic systems, enhancing general physical health and increasing energy levels. Yoga Nidra is also used for mental health including treatment of anxiety attacks, insomnia, depression and PTSD.

Flink (or Flink In) is a cafe and yoga studio located just west of the Rembrandtpark. The building is climate neutral with solar panels, recycled furniture and climate control. They offer yoga and meditation class, with massages and workshops also available by prior arrangement.
