My OneFit Week – Friday, Relax and Restore at Yagoy West

Thursday I took a rest day so straight onto Friday’s class.

Friday 9.30am – Relax and Restore at Yagoy West

‘Relax and Restore’ at Yagoy is a gentle class suitable for all levels including beginners. It contains many elements of Yin yoga although the positions are usually not held for more than 2 minutes. There is emphasis on breathing and relaxing into the pose, and the class does always leave me feeling very calm and relaxed at the end of the session.

This class was taught by Hellen. There are several different teachers at Yagoy, and this does mean that 2 classes with the same name and description can be very different. Like most teachers Hellen always checks for injuries, beginners or pregnancy at the start of the class. But especially in a small group it very much feels as though she has listened and adjusted the class around what the participants have told her. Hellen also varies her class based on the time of the year or general weather conditions but she always explains what a pose is supposed to stimulate and why it is good at this particular time. Her class today was a fairly equal match of seated, lying, kneeling and standing poses. There were some downward dogs and lunging leg stretches but no points when the moves became complicated to follow.

Yagoy has 2 Amsterdam studios in the Pijp and on Postjesweg in West. There is a small cafe in the location in the Pijp. In addition to ‘Relax and Restore’ they offer 2 further slow classes being ‘Open and Explore ‘ and ‘Mediate and Flow’ plus the more active ‘Core and Flow’, ‘Play and Flow’ and ‘Sweat and Flow’. There are regular workshops, teacher trainings and pregnancy classes.
