Urban Sports Week Amsterdam

Urban Sports Week Amsterdam takes place for the third time this week in Museumplein, from Wednesday 19th until Sunday 23rd June 2019. Since the event takes place in a public venue and has the intention of showcasing these more unusual sports to the general public, the majority of events are free with the only exception being certain 3×3 basketball matches.

The line up and sports vary slightly each year but the main focus is always BMX, inline skating, skateboarding and 3×3 basketball. Aside from watching, members of the public also get the chance to try out certain of the activities including bouldering or the 3×3 Basketball. There are inline skate and BMX clinics for those interested to improve their own skills, and various side effects spread across the city both this week and over the weekend running up to the event.

There are different competitions throughout the days open either to established athletes or members of the public. The pay-to-see event is the 3×3 Basketball World Cup event. Matches take place every day with the quarter finals on Saturday 22nd June and the semi final plus finals on Sunday 23rd. Ticket prices range from 12.50 for adults and 7.50 for children earlier in the week to 25 for adults and 12.50 children on the last day. 20 x mens and 20 x womens teams are competing to promote this sport which is included in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Aside from the competitions there are also demonstrations for the other sports. These generally involve stunts which are entertaining to watch, along with great opprtunities for anyone wanting some unusual action photography.
